Holy Week 2016

March 21, 2016

goodfriday-easter

All are welcome to join us for our celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at this year’s Good Friday and Easter services!

Good Friday: Spirit of Christ Church will be joining with several other local churches for prayer, praise, preaching and fellowship at Dartmouth Bible Church (52 Morton Ave) at 7pm.  Preachers from various churches will deliver brief reflections on what it took to accomplish our redemption, with prayer and praise woven throughout.  This should be a wonderful time of the broader Church gathering together at the foot of the Cross to worship our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Easter: Spirit of Christ Church will meet at our normal location, the Dartmouth Grange (1133 Fisher Rd), at 10am for worship.  The morning will be spent celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead!  As always, there will be a time of fellowship following the service and we greatly look forward to spending time with any visiting family, first-time visitors and old friends who may be joining us.  Glory to God, who makes all things new!

We Celebrate 100 Runs with Mobile Loaves and Fishes!

August 12, 2015

On Thursday, August 20, 2015, a team from Spirit of Christ Church will go out with the Mobile Loaves and Fishes truck to distribute food and clothing to the homeless and needy in New Bedford. This will be the 100th time that a team from Spirit of Christ Church has gone out on Thursday evening, beginning in the summer of 2013.  Except for two Thanksgiving nights, one Halloween, and two snowstorms, teams from Spirit of Christ, which include members of the church and friends, have prepared food and delivered food and clothing every Thursday for two years. On this hundredth run, we are planning for some special food for those who visit the truck.

Over the summer,  Daniel and Matthew Mumma, two of our older twins (we have two sets of twins involved regularly in our Children’s Ministry), have spearheaded our Summer Sock Drive. We are collecting new white cotton athletic socks for distribution from the truck. A couple of weeks ago, the boys reported that 120 pairs of socks had been donated, so we passed our original target of 100 pair. We hope every household will participate, and we’ll see how many pair we can collect before the 100th run on August 20.

On Wednesday evening August 19, Caryl and George Moses will host a celebratory barbecue at their home in South Dartmouth, to mark the 100th run. Besides all the members of the church, all friends who have helped with preparation and ministry from the truck have been invited.  The church will provide burgers, hot dogs and buns, with the congregations bringing salads, sides, desserts and beverages. There will be a time to share stories and/or highlights of the past two years of ministering to those in need in Jesus’ Name.

In other news, the Rev. Brian Morelli has been chosen to be the next pastoral leader of Spirit of Christ Church. He will take up his ministry with the church in September. Pastor Buzz’s last Sunday as lead pastor of Spirit of Christ Church will be August 30, over five years since he first came to ‘help out’ for a few Sundays back in late spring of 2010.

Please check the website in the near future for an introduction to the new pastor, and pray for him, his wife Naomi, and their infant daughter Sophia in this time of transition in their lives.
